Odie is the first male that I (HJ) ever kept and boy am I glad I did.  He turned into almost the perfect whippet. 

Throughout the years, Odie has given me many firsts.  He gave me my first Best in Field, my first dog to be in the Top 10 Lure Coursing (Canadian), my first dog to stay in the Top 10 Coursing (Canadian) for 7 years in a row, my first dog to obtain 1,000 Canadian Lure Coursing Points (2nd whippet ever).   He also made my first ASFA II memorable, by winning 2nd on Saturday in Open and then winning Open on Sunday. 

Known for his love of plastic and his refusal to give up the bunny at the end of the course, he has made numerous friends and enemies throughout his coursing years. 

My most memorable coursing moments with Odie was the 2nd day at our 1st ASFA II, he won the open stake and had to run against the Field Champion for Breed.  It was a long course and he was running it for the 5th time of the day.   He ran beautifully and towards the end he just got his 2nd wind and flew by the Field Champion to get to the bunny first.  He didn't win the breed, but the sight of him running and passing another dog when I knew he was tired was enough for me.  His other memorable moment was getting his LCM.  He was 8 going on 9 years old when I finally gave up on getting his LCM.  We attend 4 weekends at the most per year in the States so it's hard to get 1st's).  He had all his points but needed that one elusive 1st placement.  On the Saturday he ran in the Field Champion Stake and placed 3rd.  That night I decided that to hell with it, if he never got his LCM it didn't matter.  I moved Odie from the Field Champion Stake to Veterans.  There were 2 of them and he won 1st.  He wanted to run again so I ran him for Breed, he took the Breed, since it was a short course and he was feeling great he ran in Field.  Odie got his LCM by going Best In Field from the Veterans class.

Not to be outdone by his coursing career, Odie has had a successful life doing his second favourite thing...  Well you know what I mean.  He has breed 8 bitches in his lifetime and from them he has produced numerous Champions, Field Champions, Flyball Dogs, Obedience Title Holders, Canine Good Citizens and according to the owners "THE MOST PERFECT PETS".
